What Deems a New Business Credible In the Eyes of a Potential Client

I recently met with a potential client and inquired if she had the opportunity to view my company's website. She looked astonished and said "Yes, I won't even deal with a business that does not have a website!" I was immediately caught off guard by her response and wondered if by not having had a website during the first several months of my business could have possibly hindered it's growth. Does a new business owner need a blog, podcast, website and several memberships in social networking sites in order to deemed credible by potential clients?

My example was a hairdresser working under the table out of her home, hence, a website might be an issue if she or he is trying to avoid the IRS.

My hauling example was "who does not advertise" and that "advertising" is so broadly defined, that driving around with a sign could be "advertising."

Both could use a website, just like Kristie said, as long as they have a message that attracts attention and provides enough information to attract attention but not so much that no human interaction is necessary.

Bronwyn,
I am in NAG but was gone due to presenting a seminar. Who did you meet without a website?

I cannot recall the gentleman's name; he owned some type of financial firm.

Craig Miller of 2020 Financial? He's got a website. I'm curious if we had a guest.

This individual appeared to be a regular; I along with a another female were guests.

It was Craig. I remember him saying something about not using the Internet to promote his business and he didn't connect with his customer base through social media platforms. His customers are in a demographic that does not use the Internet much-- which is a valid point.

My mom is 83 and she REFUSES to learn anything about the Internet. It is all about your audience. =)
